The Café de la Paix is defined by its ornate, gilded Second Empire décor and its position on the northwest corner of the intersection of Boulevard des Capucines and the Place de l’Opéra. Inaugurated on June thirty, eighteen sixty-two, it was designed by architect Alfred Armand to serve the Grand-Hôtel de la Paix, which was the largest hotel in Paris at the time. The project was part of a massive urban redevelopment led by Georges-Eugène Haussmann, intended to host visitors for the eighteen sixty-seven International Exposition.
