The Sorbonne is defined by an eclectic, monumental façade that blends neo-Renaissance and classical architectural styles, constructed between eighteen eighty-three and nineteen oh one. This complex, designed by architect Henri-Paul Nénot, houses the historic heart of the University of Paris. Its origin dates back to twelve fifty-seven, when Robert de Sorbon, chaplain and confessor to King Louis the Ninth, established a college here to provide theological education for students in need.
