Saint-Séverin, Paris

The Church of Saint-Séverin is identifiable by its square bell tower, which dates to the thirteenth century and houses a bell cast in fourteen-twelve, the oldest still in Paris. Situated on the Left Bank in the Latin Quarter, this building is a Flamboyant Gothic structure that stands on the site of a sixth-century hermit's cell. It served as the parish church for the University of Paris, becoming a central gathering place for students and scholars who arrived from across Europe.
