Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is defined by a central mausoleum shaped like an inverted sword, a symbol of peace in Akan culture, clad in Italian marble and topped with a black star. It sits on five acres of land along High Street in central Accra, occupying the former British colonial polo grounds where Kwame Nkrumah stood on March sixth, nineteen fifty-seven, to declare Ghana’s independence from British rule.
