Donáti lépcső

The Donáti lépcső is a narrow, steep set of stairs that climbs the slope between Donáti utca and Iskola utca in the Víziváros district. These stairs take their name from Saint Donatus, an early Christian martyr invoked for protection against lightning and storms, whose chapel once stood in this vicinity. Buda chose him as a patron saint in seventeen twenty-four, and the name reflects a long-standing local hope that his presence might guard the neighborhood’s hillside homes against the elements.
