Nicholson Cemetery

Nicholson Cemetery is the oldest Christian burial site in Delhi, established in eighteen fifty-seven as the city became a focal point of the Indian Rebellion. The grounds are marked by weathered tombstones and marble slabs that sit amidst overgrown vegetation and tangled vines. While it is now a place of relative quiet near the busy Kashmere Gate, the site holds roughly two thousand four hundred graves from a period defined by intense military conflict and the collapse of East India Company rule.
