The Juma Masjid rises from the Chippi Chawl market as a quadrangular structure built over a large, ancient freshwater reservoir. Its most striking feature is this central water tank, which remains visible in the courtyard today and is home to fish and turtles. The mosque rests on a grid of massive stone pillars that rise directly out of the water, creating a hanging foundation that has supported the site for over two centuries.
