Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is defined by its massive central dome, which rises one hundred and sixty feet and is topped by a statue of a woman holding a torch. This building, completed in eighteen eighty-seven, serves as the headquarters for India's Central Railway. Its design, by British architect Frederick William Stevens, blends Victorian Italianate Gothic Revival architecture with traditional Indian palace features, including turrets, pointed arches, and intricately carved stone motifs.
