The Asiatic Society of Mumbai occupies the Town Hall, a neoclassical building defined by a monumental flight of thirty stone steps leading to a portico supported by eight Doric columns. Completed in eighteen thirty-three, the structure was described by the Governor of Mumbai, Sir John Malcolm, as the most magnificent building that taste and munificence had yet erected in India.
