The Eros Cinema is a distinctive Art Deco landmark in Churchgate, easily recognized by its tiered facade that rises like a wedding cake and its central block faced in red Agra sandstone. Commissioned in nineteen thirty-five by Parsi businessman Shiavax Cambata and designed by architect Sorabji Bhedwar, it opened in February nineteen thirty-eight. The structure was built on land reclaimed from the sea, a project that shaped much of the city’s surrounding geography.
