Pt. Samta Prasad(Gudai Maharaj) Residence

In the Kabir Chaura neighborhood of Varanasi stands the home of Pandit Samta Prasad, a master percussionist who gained international renown for his contributions to Indian classical music. Often called Gudai Maharaj, he was born into a family with an extensive tradition of playing the tabla and pakhawaj, belonging to the Benares Gharana school. His early training began with his father, Pandit Hari Sunder, and continued under the tutelage of Pandit Bikku Maharaj after his father passed away when he was seven years old.
