Scindia Ghat is recognizable by the Ratneshwar Mahadev temple, an ancient Shiva sanctuary that sits partially submerged in the Ganges River. While most of the city’s riverfront structures stand firmly on the banks, this temple leans at a distinct angle into the water. It is a landmark of the riverside, often photographed for its unconventional position, which locals attribute to the massive weight of the masonry causing it to sink slowly over the last one hundred and fifty years.
