Manikarnika Kund, (Varanasi)

Manikarnika Kund is a rectangular stone-lined pool tucked away near the primary cremation ground at Manikarnika Ghat. While the surrounding area is often busy with the movement of funerary rites, this pool is set apart as a site of ancient mythological origin. It is commonly called the Chakra-Pushkarini Kund, reflecting the belief that Lord Vishnu dug the basin with his divine discus, or chakra, during the earliest stages of creation.
