Lalita Ghat is a broad stone stairway on the Ganges riverbank, distinguished by a distinct wooden temple at the top that mirrors the architectural style of the Kathmandu Valley. Unlike many of the city's riverfront landings, this site was commissioned in the early nineteenth century by Rana Bahadur Shah, the King of Nepal, during his period of exile in Varanasi. The king intended for the structure to serve as a replica of the Pashupatinath Temple found in his home country.
