Origin and Destination

The Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe is marked by a massive, ornate crown perched atop its central bell tower, visible from across the historic center of Puerto Vallarta. The church stands one block from the main plaza, serving as the city’s most recognizable landmark. It began as a small, rustic adobe chapel founded in eighteen eighty-three. By nineteen fifteen, Father Francisco Ayala directed the construction of a larger temple, which grew in phases across the twentieth century as the town transformed from a fishing village into a city.
