The Plaza de Armas is a public square defined by its central, ornate bandstand, known locally as a kiosk, which serves as a frequent stage for live music and community gatherings. Located in the historic heart of the city, the plaza features a bronze statue of Ignacio L. Vallarta, the Jalisco lawyer and former governor for whom the city was named. The sculpture was created by artist Miguel Carmona.
