Itum Bahal is the largest traditional Buddhist monastery courtyard in Kathmandu, distinguished by its long, rectangular layout and seven interconnected inner courtyards. Founded in the eleventh century, this site is one of only three medieval monasteries in the Kathmandu Valley that still retains its original design. Visitors often pass through a narrow archway on Kilagal Street to find the complex, which serves as a quiet residential and religious space tucked behind the city's busy market streets.
