Thamel

Thamel is defined by a dense labyrinth of narrow, traffic-clogged alleys draped in prayer flags and lined with multi-story buildings. It is a commercial neighborhood in Kathmandu that grew organically from a quiet residential area into the city's primary hub for international travelers. While the historic heart of Kathmandu lies elsewhere, this district emerged as the focal point for mountaineers and backpackers, largely beginning in the nineteen seventies.
