Kilagal

Kilagal is a historic neighborhood in the core of Kathmandu, defined by its dense warren of narrow alleys and traditional brick houses with intricately carved wooden windows. The name itself is derived from the words kisi, meaning elephant, and ghar, meaning house. This connection remains active during the annual festival of Indra Jatra, when men from the neighborhood gather here to construct a traditional elephant figure, known as the pulukishi, before enacting a ritual dance through the local streets.
