Al Shafee Mosque

The Al Shafee Mosque, often called the ancient mosque, is defined by a massive, thick minaret at its southwestern corner that rises above the surrounding coral-stone buildings of the Al Balad district. The structure is built significantly below the modern street level, a feature that reflects its long presence in the city. Constructed primarily from coral stone and wood, the mosque is known as the only genuine example of a hypostyle design in Jeddah, featuring an open-air central courtyard surrounded by arcades.
