Bab Jadid

Bab Jadid, or the New Gate, stands as a historic entrance to Al Balad, the ancient heart of Jeddah. You can identify the site by its two illuminated stone towers, which rise above the street to mark what was once a critical point in the city's perimeter. This gate was part of a larger defensive wall, originally built in fifteen oh nine under the Mamluk Sultan Qansuh al-Ghuri to protect the port city from Portuguese naval attacks.
