The Jeddah Historical Wall once defined the entire shape of Al Balad, marking the boundary of a city that looked outward across the Red Sea. In fifteen oh nine, the Mamluk Sultan Al-Ghori ordered the construction of this stone fortification, complete with towers and heavy cannons, to defend the port against Portuguese naval threats. It became a critical barrier for a city that served as the primary gateway for pilgrims traveling to Makkah.
