You are near Bab Al Madinah Lane, a narrow passage in the Al Balad district that draws its name from the historic northern gate of Jeddah. This lane marks the approach to where the city’s defensive perimeter once stood. Archaeological work at this site revealed a forty-meter-long section of the original wall, providing a glimpse into the fortifications first established in the early sixteenth century to protect the port from naval threats.
