The statue of Sun Yat-sen in Saint Mary’s Square stands fourteen feet tall and consists of red granite and stainless steel. It depicts the founder of the Republic of China, and the artist Beniamino Bufano completed the work in nineteen thirty-eight. Local Chinatown business leaders commissioned the piece to mark the revolutionary leader’s historical connection to the city.
