Historic PG&E Smokestack

The three-hundred-foot brick smokestack rising above the Dogpatch waterfront is a landmark of the former Potrero Power Station. Built in the early twentieth century, this massive chimney once served a sprawling industrial complex that, at its peak, generated one-third of the city's electricity. The plant relied on the site's deep-water access, a feature that historically drew industries ranging from sugarcane refining to major shipyards to this stretch of the San Francisco coastline.
