Kneass Boat Works

The Kneass Boat Works is a thirteen-thousand-five-hundred-square-foot, two-story structure located on Illinois Street that dates back to eighteen seventy-eight. Originally built at the edge of the water, it is now landlocked due to the filling of the adjacent bay in the late nineteenth century. It stands as likely the oldest building in the Pier 70 area, marking a time when the neighborhood was the center of industrial shipbuilding.
