Port of San Francisco

The Port of San Francisco manages a stretch of the city waterfront defined by its long piers extending into the bay on wooden piles. In the Mission Bay area, these piers and the surrounding docks represent a legacy of industrial and maritime activity that dates back to the nineteenth century. While much of the city's modern shipping shifted elsewhere decades ago, this waterfront retains remnants of its working past, including the iron and steel remnants near the industrial docks and the historic structures that once served as the backbone of local trade.
