Trocadero Transfer

The building at five hundred twenty Fourth Street occupies a significant space in the history of San Francisco nightlife. Originally a television studio, this four-thousand-square-foot warehouse was transformed in nineteen seventy-seven into the Trocadero Transfer, a high-drama discotheque that became a sanctuary for the city's gay community. Its founder, Dick Collier, sought to create a palace of disco opulence and commissioned a custom, massive sound system that was widely considered the finest in the city.
