The Curran Theatre is a French Renaissance Revival building on Geary Street, distinguished by its ornate plasterwork and a ceiling hand-painted to resemble wood grain. Opened in September nineteen twenty-two, the theater was an eight-hundred-thousand-dollar project led by theatrical producer Homer Curran. Architect Alfred Henry Jacobs designed the one-thousand-six-hundred-sixty-seven-seat house to rival Broadway venues, importing materials and employing expert craftsmen to create its signature elegant interior.
