California Hall stands at six hundred twenty-five Polk Street as a distinct, German Renaissance-style building designed by architect Frederick Herman Meyer. You can identify the structure by the German House Association monogram, which remains carved above the original entrance doors. Built in nineteen twelve, the hall was originally named Das Deutsche Haus and served as a social gathering place for the German immigrant community that once centered on this street.
