The Winterland Ballroom once stood at the corner of Post and Steiner Streets as a massive, five-thousand-four-hundred-seat arena. Originally built in nineteen twenty-eight as the New Dreamland Auditorium, the structure began its life as an ice-skating rink that could be floored over for boxing matches, opera, or touring ice shows like the Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies.
