San Francisco Mint

The Old San Francisco Mint is a fortress of Greek Revival architecture, recognizable by its austere sandstone facade and commanding fluted columns. Known as the Granite Lady, this building at the corner of Fifth and Mission streets was completed in eighteen seventy-four. It stands as a rare survivor of the nineteen oh six earthquake and fire, which leveled much of the surrounding city.
