Mission Dolores Cemetery

Mission Dolores Cemetery is identified by the collection of historic headstones and the reconstructed tule reed house nestled among garden plots of native plants. As the only cemetery remaining within the city limits of San Francisco, it occupies a small fraction of its original burial grounds, which once stretched to present-day Church Street. Established in the late eighteenth century, the site holds the remains of approximately ten thousand people, including five thousand Ohlone, Miwok, and other Indigenous people who built the mission.
