Ten Sanchez Street is now a private residence, but for fourteen years, this building housed a landmark of the city’s queer history. From nineteen seventy until nineteen eighty-four, the ground floor operated as Scott's Pit, which holds the distinction of being the first lesbian biker bar in San Francisco. The bar drew its name from the original owner, a charismatic woman known as Scotty, who was frequently seen holding a cigarette in a signature long cigarette holder.
