The New Mission Theater is marked by a seventy-foot neon blade sign that rises high above Mission Street. First opened in nineteen sixteen, this structure was designed by the Reid Brothers as a grand movie palace. In nineteen thirty-two, architect Timothy Pflueger remodeled the interior and exterior, introducing the Mayan-inspired Art Deco style and the iconic marquee that remains a local landmark today.
