Union Race Course

The Union Race Course occupied a large, pear-shaped space in the Mission District during the eighteen fifties. When it first opened, the track sat on land where no city streets yet existed. It stretched roughly between what are now nineteenth and twenty-third streets, and from Capp Street to Harrison Street. During its operation, the track served as a center for entertainment where spectators gathered to watch horse races on a half-mile circuit.
