GLBT Historical Society Museum

The GLBT Historical Society Museum occupies a compact storefront at four thousand one hundred twenty-seven Eighteenth Street. This sixteen hundred square foot space, which opened in January two thousand eleven, functions as the first stand-alone museum dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history and culture in the United States. It provides a public venue for exhibitions drawn from the extensive archival collections of the GLBT Historical Society, an organization founded in nineteen eighty-five by activists who began by documenting local history from a living room full of boxes.
