The site of the former Fox Theatre at thirteen fifty Market Street is now occupied by the Fox Plaza high-rise. Opened on June twenty-eighth, nineteen twenty-nine, the original theater was a four thousand six hundred fifty-one-seat movie palace designed by architect Thomas W. Lamb. It was the last of five grand theaters built by movie pioneer William Fox, earning the nickname The Last Word for its immense scale and Baroque ornamentation.
