Embarcadero Plaza

Embarcadero Plaza is defined by a landscape of irregular red brick pavers and the forty-foot-tall, Brutalist concrete sculpture known as the Vaillancourt Fountain. Completed in nineteen seventy-two, the site marks the eastern end of Market Street, where the city’s primary commercial corridor meets the waterfront. Landscape architect Lawrence Halprin designed the space, intending it to serve as a civic stage for the public.
