Mills Building and Tower

The Mills Building and Tower is defined by its ornate, two-story arched entrance on Montgomery Street, which features Corinthian columns and intricate carvings of acanthus leaves and faces. Completed in eighteen ninety-two, the original ten-story Mills Building was designed by the Chicago firm Burnham and Root as one of San Francisco’s first steel-frame skyscrapers. Named for the financial tycoon Darius Ogden Mills, the structure was a pioneer of the Chicago School architectural style in the city.
