Sue Bierman Park

landmark

Sue Bierman Park covers five point three acres of green space near the Embarcadero, marked by open lawns and a children's playground that features a large rope-climbing dome. This land sits directly on the former footprint of the Embarcadero Freeway, a double-deck highway that once severed downtown San Francisco from the waterfront. Following significant damage during the nineteen eighty-nine Loma Prieta earthquake, the city demolished the freeway rather than repairing it, clearing the way for this public space.
