Albion Castle

Albion Castle stands out for its six-story stone tower, a structure built from discarded cargo ship ballast stones and designed to resemble the Norman fortifications of England. Constructed in eighteen seventy by John Hamlin Burnell, a young English immigrant, the building was intended to serve as both a residence and a base for the Albion Ale and Porter Brewery. Burnell selected the site because of its secret advantage: a natural, underground aquifer that provided a steady supply of cold, fresh spring water.
