FUF Garden

The Friends of the Urban Forest operates across San Francisco to green the city's streets, but the gardens and tree-planting projects you find here in the Bayview are the result of a specific shift in how the organization works with local residents. While the nonprofit began in nineteen eighty-one by planting street trees, its efforts in this neighborhood evolved to focus on community-led projects like sidewalk gardens and yard tree programs. These initiatives emerged after many residents expressed concerns about the long-term maintenance of trees planted on public sidewalks and the impacts on street parking.
