Anderson & Cristofani

The Anderson and Cristofani boatyard at nine hundred Innes Avenue stands as a survivor from a time when the India Basin at Hunters Point was lined with timber yards. Starting in the eighteen seventies, shipwrights here turned raw wood into scow schooners, the flat-bottomed vessels that once carried cargo across the San Francisco Bay. Henry P. Anderson, a Danish shipwright, arrived in eighteen ninety-three to work in these yards and eventually bought his own. By the time he partnered with Alf Cristofani in nineteen twenty-six, the site had become a fixture of the local waterfront.
