Japantown Peace Plaza

The Japantown Peace Plaza is defined by a hundred-foot-tall, five-tiered concrete pagoda that rises above the surrounding mall rooftops. Dedicated on March twenty-eighth, nineteen sixty-eight, this structure was a gift from Osaka, San Francisco’s sister city, and designed by the Japanese architect Yoshiro Taniguchi. As a modernist interpretation of a traditional Buddhist stupa, the tower serves as a civic monument intended to foster harmony and cultural connection.
