San Francisco Peace Pagoda

The San Francisco Peace Pagoda rises one hundred feet above the surrounding plaza as a five-tiered, white concrete tower. Its smooth, stacked design marks the center of Japantown, standing between the Japan Center malls. This structure is a modernist reinterpretation of a Buddhist stupa, intended to symbolize the connection between the United States and Japan.
