Soko Hardware occupies a storefront at sixteen ninety-eight Post Street, identifiable by its bi-level layout and its deep collection of both standard hardware supplies and traditional Japanese goods. Opened in nineteen twenty-five by Masayasu and Naka Ashizawa, the store takes its name from an early Japanese term for San Francisco, which translates roughly to mulberry bush harbor.
