Glide Memorial Church

Glide Memorial Church stands on a corner in the Tenderloin as a tall, sand-colored structure distinguished by its prominent tower. Built in nineteen thirty-one, the church was established by Methodist philanthropist Lizzie Glide to serve working-class people in downtown San Francisco. While it began with conservative roots, it underwent a radical transformation in the nineteen sixties under the leadership of Reverend Cecil Williams.
