The Tool Box (bar)

The Tool Box is marked today by the presence of a Whole Foods, but between nineteen sixty-two and nineteen seventy-one, this corner of Fourth and Harrison Streets held the city’s first leather bar in the South of Market neighborhood. It was distinguished by massive black-and-white murals painted by artist Chuck Arnett, which covered the interior walls with images of masculine, leather-clad men.
