McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum

museum

The McCormick Bridgehouse and Chicago River Museum occupies the southwest tower of the DuSable Bridge at Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. This five-story structure is one of four towers built for the bridge, which opened in nineteen twenty as the first double-deck, double-leaf trunnion bascule bridge of its kind. While the tower was originally designed to house the bridge’s mechanical controls, it now functions as a vertical museum exploring the history of the Chicago River and the engineering of the city’s movable bridges.
